St Columba is a smallish (c. 85 adults & 10 children) but growing church located within a very mixed suburban area in north-west Fareham.
We are part of the Church of England parish of Holy Trinity with St Columba, with our ‘mother’ church, Holy Trinity being in Fareham town centre.
The area we serve is contrasting – a lot of the housing is ‘comfortable’ middle class suburbia but there is also a sizeable pocket of quite serious deprivation and this is where our current church buildings are located.
Historically, the church was established as a mission community to the people living and working in north west Fareham. We remain committed to that original vision but are currently praying and seeking God for what that might mean for us today. Our current hall is in a state of near collapse but is in almost constant use by the community whereas our church is not well used during the week and lacks the basic facilities we need and is expensive to heat.
We are currently exploring creative ways of funding and building a new ‘enabling’ facility which helps us to worship God, grow together as a community and serve others in our neighbourhood.
We share our parish ministry with our sister church, Holy Trinity, in the town centre. Our main parish website is at www.holytrinitystcolumba.org.uk.
